Play Costumes

Please can play costumes be in school by Monday 3rd December or the morning of Tuesday 4th at the latest. We are planning a dress rehearsal on this morning.

Mrs Oakman has just let me know what a lovely Friday morning she had with Cygnus class. She is booked in a couple of more times before Christmas. She provides continuity when I am out on courses or supporting other members of staff in school. I asked her not to change library books as Mrs Rollinson was away and this is her area and she has her own system in place.

There are sickness bugs going around. If your child has been sick at all then there is a 48 hour window where your child has to be absent from school for. There are occasions when children may feel unwell in school and report that they were sick in the night or had a tummy upset. Please do not send your child to school as it is unfair on other children and adults. We are being extra vigilant with hand washing.

I am slightly changing the way we listen to readers.Children who regularly read at home will have three new books on reading day, but I cannot say which day this is as things are always changing at the moment. These books should be shared at least two or three times in the week so in theory the books will last a week. Expression and fluency are two important elements of reading and this often comes through rereading texts especially after an adult has modelled the process. We do reading every day as part of phonics and other areas of learning. After Christmas I will be grouping children and listening to them as a group, this is a time when I can effectively teach reading rather than just listening to reading. Everyone will have all 45 tricky words by the holidays regardless of where the children are on the learning process. After Christmas, other than assessing these words it is the repetition of learning at home that supports children in learning these words. For some children I will send home a list o the next 100 Y1 words.

In maths we have been learning about weighing and the language involved. Using objects that had been wrapped up we made clever guesses about heavy and light presents before weighing them. We also ordered presents by weight and soon realised that big presents aren't always the heaviest. In number we were counting circus objects and using a simple number line to locate the number needed and copy it. I was most impressed by the accuracy of counting and the beautiful number formation.

We have just finished week 1 of phase 3 phonics which have included the sounds j, w, v and x. We have also been learning to write these letters as well as our family groups and have now finished all 4 family groups and will be continually revisiting handwriting.

In RE we started the Christmas story and made links to the Nativity, we were able to think about how special Angel Gabriels message was and why Jesus was going to be so important. Children were encouraged to make links with Jesus as a special person and thought about what we had previously been learning about the miracles he performed. This week we will look at the visitors after Jesus was born and gifts they brought with them.

Good bye to the blog

Hello, I had to do one last blog to let you know that the reason for no update wasn't because I had forgotten. As a school we are taking...
