Having a go

Hello, I hope you have all had a lovely weekend.
Last Monday we all tried some writing, using sounds that we know and different marks to describe some weekend news. The important assessment point was encouraging the children to share what they had written;were they able to ascribe meanings to the marks they had made. I introduced the children to a sound card so that the children who were ready to use initial sounds in their writing could do so. This week we are starting phase 3 phonics and this will help fill in missing sounds, digraphs and trigraphs.

We learned how to write ladder letters in handwriting practice and this coming week we will be learning how to write one armed robot letters. For home learning the children brought home the curly caterpillar family to have a go at. Whilst children may find handwriting difficult, in our class we say we can't do something yet and practice really helps. We even learned the word resilience and keeping on trying. We shared the story of the hare and the tortoise and it was the tortoise who kept on going that reached the finishing line first. Resilience will be our continuing theme this week.

In number we were learning all about 7. We were using play dough to imprint ways of making 7, using felt tips to rainbow write, finding 7 matching objects in the sand and sharing 7 natural objects between 2 hoops. The children loved using our crates to make patterns of 7. I was exploring their critical thinking and how children actively learned whilst exploring these activities.

The nativity is going very well and the children are all excited to be performing. We can't wait. I am starting to get costumes in and am happy to store them at school. Nativity rehearsals take the place of PE in the hall but in EYFS there are plenty of opportunities for physical development each day.

We will be assessing tricky words again this week. This might mean we are not actually listening to individual reading books although there are continuous reading opportunities in the class each day. For those children who read regularly at home I am happy to put 2 books in their reading record each time up until Christmas as long as there is plenty of evidence that they have been read. Books need to be shared at least 2-3 times please for confidence.  Don't worry if two books are too many, we will only change what we need to.

Good bye to the blog

Hello, I had to do one last blog to let you know that the reason for no update wasn't because I had forgotten. As a school we are taking...
